

Richard was reared and educated in La Salle. He entered the US Army on July 9, 1959. He was very patriotic and served in Germany and Vietnam. He received numerous campaign ribbons during his career, including the Good Conduct Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal with two bars, Viet Nam Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star Medal for heroism. He was a Rifle and Pistol Expert during his career. Towards the end of his Army career he worked at the Pentagon. He retired a Master Sergeant on October 1, 1981. After his retirement he returned to Colorado. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Regis University, Denver. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Richard loved his family and time with them, especially his nieces and nephews.
Richard is survived by sisters, Edna Heyman of Greeley, Lenora (Pete) Trujillo of Denver, Nancy (Glen) Causey of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Loretta Duran of La Salle; brothers, Felix (Linda) Duran of Denver, James (Anita) Duran of Modesto, California and Harvie (Judy) Duran of Auburn, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Acor and Betty Eggert.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be rendered by the US Army Honor Guard.
