Estes Park resident Bob Irvine passed into the presence of the Lord on October 25, 2016 while holding the hand of his wife of 66 years, Norma Irvine, in their apartment at Good Samaritan Village. Bob’s family rejoices that his battle with dementia has ceased. They rejoice even more in the certainty of the Biblical promise that Bob has seen Jesus Christ and heard from him, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
Bob was born in Flint, MI in 1926, to Robert and Mary Irvine, immigrants from Scotland. He graduated early from Flint Central High School in order to enlist in the Navy where he served as a Navy Corpsman during the latter years of WWII. After being discharged from the Navy Bob attended and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1950.
Soon after graduation Bob married Norma Barrington, of London, Ontario, Canada. Bob and Norma lived in Michigan, where Bob began his engineering career with General Motors. While in Michigan their son Robert was born in 1951 and their daughter Lorraine was born in 1952. With the rapid expansion of the aircraft industry in southern California, the Irvines moved to San Diego, where Bob worked as an engineer for Rohr, a subcontractor of Boeing Aircraft. Bob and Norma’s youngest son Hal was born in San Diego in 1961. In 1975 Bob and Norma and Hal moved to Riverside, CA, where Bob retired from Rohr in 1983.
Bob’s driving passion in life was his commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a young couple Bob and Norma worked at various Bible camps. Bob was a leader in the congregations he attended and enjoyed preaching and directing music. In Riverside Bob and Norma opened their home every week to a large group of Campus Crusade high school students. When Bob retired from Rohr he and Norma relocated to West Germany and smuggled Bibles and Christian literature through the iron curtain into various eastern bloc countries in order that oppressed Christians could have access to the scriptures. When family responsibilities brought them home to southern California, Bob served in prison ministry until he was into his 80s. In 2011 Bob and Norma moved to Good Samaritan in Estes Park to be near family. He and Norma attended Mtn. View Bible Fellowship and were faithful supporters of the ministry there.
The Irvine family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan for their excellent care given to Bob over these last almost 5 years. Dr. Fonken and the staff of Timberline Clinic provided tender, professional medical help to Bob and the family is grateful. Hospice of the Estes Valley enabled Bob to be comfortable and remain at home with Norma until he saw the Lord and the family expresses our thanks to this wonderful organization. Thanks to Mountain View Bible Fellowship for welcoming Bob and Norma into the congregation and providing love and encouragement to them.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma, his children Robert (Maira), Lorraine (Mark), and Hal (Karen), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both his parents and one grandson. A service of worship to the Lord and remembrance of Bob will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2pm at Mountain View Bible Fellowship. Burial will take place at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 7 at 11am. Memorial gifts may be made to the General Fund at Mountain View Bible Fellowship 1575 S. St. Vrain Ave. Estes Park, CO 80517.
