

Roger was born May 22, 1921 in Gorham, Maine to Jessie (Wince) and Charles William Day. The family returned to Colorado in 1924.
Roger grew up in the Kersey area and graduated from Valley View Grade School and attended Kersey High School graduating in 1938. While in high school, Roger participated in all sports. After graduating, he went on to work on farms and ranches. He also worked in a gold mine, and saw mill before going to work for a power line contractor. In early 1942 Roger joined the Army and served 20 months in the pacific area on several islands and was among the first troops into Tokyo and setting in Tokyo Bay aboard ship while surrender papers were signed aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.
After returning home, Roger went back to work for the same power line contractor building lines in Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, Kansas and Arkansas.
Roger met and married Mildred Ewing in Beaver City, Nebraska in 1949. The family returned to Kersey in 1951. At that time he worked as a carpenter and also worked in the Seed Elevator before becoming employed with Mountain State Telephone Company. The first years with them were spent on the road working in all parts of Colorado. Roger also volunteered with the Kersey Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He also served on the Town Board and several years as Mayor of Kersey. The family later moved to the Platteville area and he became more involved with Real Estate, Farming and Cattle. Roger retired from the Telephone Company in 1983 and sold farm equipment and livestock. In 1988 they moved to Greeley and became a realtor in 1989 shortly after retiring. He volunteered in the Telephone Pioneer Projects until 2008.
Roger is survived by his wife Mildred Day; son Garry Ewing, grandsons Bryan Ewing and Brad Ewing; great grandsons Brandon Ewing, Mason Ewing, Robert Ewing and James Ewing; great granddaughter Carissa Ordonez; great great grandson Ethan Ordonez; great great granddaughter Sabrina Cruz; and one sister Shirley Beek. He was preceded by two brothers Preston Day and Volly Day; two sisters Lois Stivers and Janet Huffert; and great grandson Holdon Ewing.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 followed by funeral service at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
