

Ruby was a 1945 graduate of College High School and was secretary of her class. She received the "Bulldog of the Year" award in her later years for her service to the school. She attended Colorado State College and began working at The Greeley Tribune during these same years. She then took a job as a secretary at Dinio Milk Lines that was involved with the pickup of milk cans from producing farms for delivery to the local milk plants. She got her future husband, Bill, a job as a driver for the company. Ruby and Bill got married May 21, 1947, and Bill eventually bought the company and expanded it into Welco Milk Lines. Ruby then served as secretary to Welco as well as another family company, Platte Valley Rental Company.
Ruby was a longtime member of The First Congregational Church of Greeley since 1956. She was deeply involved in her church and she served by working on the weekly bulletin. She was a troop leader for local Brownie and Girl Scout troops and later served as a member of the board of directors of the local Salvation Army. Ruby was also a member of a chapter of Scroll and Fan and served as president for a few years and was also a member of a local PEO group.
Coming from a large farm family, Ruby continued her family relationships by hosting a family reunion every year for a number of years. She traveled the world fairly extensively with Bill and always enjoyed meeting new people with different cultures. She also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several different groups throughout the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzan (Dane) Lewis, her son William James (Synthia) Ankeney, grandchildren Katina (Nick) Moody, Jaemie (Don) Hillbish, and William Hovatter, great-grandchildren Alyssa, Samuel and Nathaniel Hillbish, Jordan Moody, and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceeded in death by her parents and brothers Carl, Ezra, Jake, Harold, John, Warren, Ted, Conrad Jr., and Don Meyer, and by sisters Esther Meyer and Mary Drobnitch.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 15th, at the First Congregational Church, 2101 16th Street, Greeley, at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be in Ruby's name to honor her husband Bill, to the Alzheimer's Association.
