Shirlee Weber passed on to heaven on April 8, 2014 at Hospice of Northern Colorado after a courageous two and half year battle with brain cancer. She was 58.
Shirlee Ann Williams was born August 16, 1955 to Margaret and Hershel Williams at North Island Naval Air Station in Coronado, California. Due to her father being in the Navy, Shirlee lived in several cities on the West Coast while growing up including Chula Vista, Hayward, and Cabrillo Heights, California and Port Orchard, Washington as well as in the Platteville and LaSalle areas during her father’s overseas tours. She and her family permanently settled in the LaSalle area in 1968 upon her father’s retirement from the Navy.
She attended Weld County School District RE-1, graduating from Valley High School in 1973. She belonged to the National Honor Society, played volleyball and ran track. She was a member of the “Pride of the Valley” marching band and was among the members who made the first trip to play in the King Kamehameha parade in Honolulu, Hawai’i in 1970.
She attended the University of Northern Colorado, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. During her college days and after graduation she worked at Joslins Department store in Greeley for a total of 18 years.
On February 26, 1977 she married Jim Weber at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley. They continued to live in the Greeley area and their son Nate was subsequently born in August 1983. In 1991 she and her family moved to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin (near Madison) where she worked for 19 years as the business manager for a staffing company. In 2010 she and her husband moved to Columbia, Illinois, (near St Louis, Missouri) where she worked as an administrative assistant and human resources manager until her illness in December 2011.
Shirlee’s greatest loves were her family, reading fiction novels, and Mexican food (she made fantastic guacamole). She never lost at super quiz. She was heavily involved in helping to organize youth sporting events (especially basketball). She was a member of Evans Post #6624 Ladies Auxiliary. She touched and helped many lives with her wit, wisdom and caring.
Survivors are her husband Jim of Columbia, Illinois; her son Nate of New York City, NY; her parents Margaret and Hershel Williams of LaSalle; sister Marlene Olin of Greeley; brother Wendell Williams of LaSalle; a niece Amber Olin of Chicago, Illinois and a nephew Trevor (Heather) Olin of Ft. Collins; an aunt Fern Koehler of Greeley; uncles Alton Cobb (Joanne) of Greeley, Melvin Cobb (Cindy) of Ocala, Florida and Virgil (Carol) Williams of Coquille, Oregon.
Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel and one hour prior to the service. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley. Private inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
