Shirley M. Bohlender, of Scottsbluff, Neb., formerly of Greeley, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Mitchell Care Center, Mitchell, Neb. She was born Shirley Mae Hughes, on Aug. 21, 1922, to Olive A. (Keirnes) and Clarence Z. Hughes in Berthoud. Shirley was the sixth of eight children in her family. On Oct. 10, 1943, she married Carl Bohlender in Eaton. She and Carl raised their three children at the Bohlender Brothers Ranch in LaSalle until it was sold in 1972. They then moved to Greeley. Besides being a rancher's wife and homemaker, Shirley was a Tupperware representative for 12 years and worked in her brother's, Wayne Hughes, deli in Greeley for 10 years. In 1993, Shirley and Carl moved to Mesa, Ariz., where they enjoyed being near their daughter, Annetta Munstermann, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were born while they lived there. In 2005, Shirley moved to Scottsbluff, Neb., to be near her daughter, Roberta Sarchet, and her family of Minatare, Neb. She enjoyed being near her grandchildren in that area and great-grandchildren who were born while she lived there.
Survivors are her two daughters, Annetta Munstermann of Dewey, Ariz., and Roberta Sarchet of Minatare, Neb.; and a son, Donald Bohlender of Greeley; a brother, Edwin Hughes of Denver; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; one son; three brothers; and three sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 10th Avenue and 11th Street, Greeley. Interment will be in Linn Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Greeley in memory of Shirley, in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 28th St., Greeley, CO 80634.
