Shirley Roberta Ketterling, age 87, arrived in heaven to meet the Lord November 18, 2014. Shirley served as a devoted minister’s wife beside her beloved husband Herb, who preceded her in death in 2013 after 64 years of marriage. Shirley and Herb had lived in Greeley, CO since 1992 after serving Nazarene churches in Hillsboro and Ellendale, ND, Litchfield, MN, and North Platte, NE. In Colorado she and Herb served as ministers in Fort Collin and then finally at First Church of the Nazarene in Greeley.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Shari Ketterling Archer (son-in-law Royal “Gil”) of Gregory, South Dakota, daughter Kathy Ketterling Bisig (son-in-law Steve) of Greeley, CO, son David Ketterling (daughter-in-law Veronica) of Grandview, MO, son Jay Ketterling (daughter-in-law Dana) of Olathe, KS; by granddaughters Amber Archer Carroll, Allison Bisig, Meredith Bisig, Kinisha Ketterling Blevins, Lindsey Ketterling Packingham; by grandsons Justin Bisig, Brady Ketterling, Royal Archer and Bryce Kendrick, along with ten wonderful great grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her brothers Donald and Harry Campbell and was preceded in death by her parents Forrest and Lillian Campbell and brothers Jack and Jimmie Campbell.
Shirley was born in St. Charles, Illinois and then moved with her family to California where she lived until graduation from high school. She attended Northwest Nazarene College in Idaho where she met Herb and began their beautiful lifelong marriage. They were an inseparable couple who especially enjoyed vegetable gardening and craft work of all kinds. Shirley was a godly mother and gifted as a seamstress, baker and cook, church soloist, crafter, knitter, floral arranger and drawing artist. She eagerly learned new types of craftwork and loved to give her handiwork, baked goods and candy creations to church members, neighbors, friends and family.
Shirley truly demonstrated the sacrificial life of Christ and deeply loved her husband, children and grandchildren without measure. Shirley looked to serve the needs of others with whatever resources she had available to her. She will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in her passage to Heaven and all of God’s eternal plans for her. The Lord and all of Shirley’s children and grandchildren together say, “Well done Shirley! Very well done!”
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the dedicated staff of Centennial Nursing Home, Caring Hearts and Bee Hive Homes for all their loving care and support.
