Vera E. Benson-Roberts

Vera Evelyn Benson-Roberts went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2015 at Life Care Center in Greeley. Vera was born July 9, 1922 to Herman and Hazel (Ennes) Zupke on their family farm homestead east of Evans, known as the Ennes Dairy.

Vera attended school at the rural Auburn School and graduated from Greeley High School in 1940. Most of Vera’s life was spent on the family homestead.

After graduating from Greeley High School, she married Albin Magnuson, who died as the result of an auto accident a few years later. Vera then married Guy Benson and they were married for 43 years until his death in 1983. She and Jack Roberts, her friend and companion, were married in November 1984 until his death in 2012.

During her lifetime, in addition to numerous volunteer activities, Vera was employed by the Red Cross, Ennes Dairy, Montgomery Ward, Poudre Valley Creamery and retired from the North Colorado Medical Center.

Vera was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Vera is survived by her sons, Herman A. Magnuson (Cherlene), Loveland, CO, Larry A. Magnuson (Chris), Evans, CO, G.M. “Butch” Benson (Dee), Evans, and Darrell D. Benson (Donna), Greeley, CO; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; sister Zelda Brunner (Butch), Greeley, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Gina Benson; sister Betty Anderson Norris; and her parents.

A private family celebration of Vera’s life will take place at a later date.
