

Virginia “Ginni” Flora Ward, 97, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away at Fairacres Manor on October 31, 2017. Virginia was born in Louisburg, Missouri on July 12, 1920 to Perry and Julia (Young) Smallwood. She was the oldest of five children, and also the only girl. After her schooling in Missouri, she moved to Lucerne, Colorado with her family where she met her husband Robert “Bob” Hamilton Ward. Virginia and Bob eloped to Nebraska to be married on May 24, 1941. Bob was drafted in the military which moved them to many places including Abilene, Texas, which Virginia did not favor. After Bob’s time served in the military they moved back to Lucerne. Together they had three children, Judy, Keith and Deborah. They lived in Sterling, CO and Pueblo, CO but ultimately settling down in Greeley, CO.
Virginia was a homemaker at heart and spent some time employed with Clover Club Foods (previously Spud Chips.) She spent much beloved time exercising at the “Spa.” Virginia often shared many memories and stories of growing up in Missouri. She was also a baseball fan and loved her Rockies. In Ginni’s later years she enjoyed her taxi rides to Stepping Stones in Loveland, CO where she enjoyed spending time with friends.
She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-laws, Judy & Dale Yose of Eustis, Florida, Deborah and Michael Gonzales of Greeley, CO; brother Gene Smallwood and family of Eaton, CO; grandchildren Jessica & Chris Faubion of McKinney TX, and Chase & Christina Gonzales of Ault, CO; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Cierra, and Gabriel Faubion and Isabella, Isaiah and Shalyn Gonzales.
Preceding her in death are her parents Perry and Julia Smallwood; husband Robert “Bob” Ward; son Keith Ward; three brothers, Jack, Herman, and Clete Smallwood; and sister-in-laws, Pat and Lois Smallwood.
A Memorial Reception will take place on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon at the Allnutt Macy Reception Center. She will lay to rest with her husband and son at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
