Ubaldo (Walt) Amadeo Sanchez was born at home in Saguache, CO on April 13,1948 to Patricio Sanchez and Carmen Trujillo. He is survived by his siblings: Rita Ramirez, Carmen Schrimpsher & Rudy Sanchez; Walt’s brother, Pat Sanchez preceded him in death. Walt had been in Hospice care for liver cancer and passed away on November 11, 2025 with loved ones there at his Windsor, CO home. He was 77.
Walt grew up in Denver and joined the Air Force (1968-1971), serving in Vietnam in the NSA. After returning home from war, he went to Metro State University where he earned two bachelor’s degrees. He then went to work at NCR before being hired by the State of Colorado, where he trained in IT. He went on to work 20+ years as an IT Financial Analyst.
Walt loved the game of soccer and played it for many years, even playing in a 50+ league. He also coached young adults in competitive leagues, winning some titles.
Walt and Levya met later in life and just recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. During their time together some of their favorite activities included travelling, Improv, art classes, kayaking, spending time in the mountains, and square/round dancing. Of course, high on this list of favorites was spending time with Levya’s kids & grandkids and Walt’s nieces & nephews).
After he and Levya moved to Windsor, CO in 2013 he retired and began volunteering at Skyview Elementary School, helping kids in the classroom with advanced math & reading.
In 2019 he began taking an interest in a sport new to him – pickleball! Both he and Levya got hooked. He also decided to golf more frequently, so he joined two golf leagues.
In the last few years Walt got involved with the local Veteran’s Organization and was proud to attend two of the Golden Age Veteran’s games, where he competed in golf, pickleball, bocci ball & cornhole.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel at 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Pathways of Northern Colorado in Ft. Collins.
Walt would want to be remembered as the guy that made you chuckle (or at least grown).
Baa-dee-um-pum!
