William N. George

William (Bill) N. George, age 99, of Greeley, Colorado passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was born on December 4, 1924 in Douglas, Wyoming to Robert Singleton and Martha Mae (Gore) George. William grew up on a ranch with his four sisters. His father passed away when he was 13, leaving him to take care of his mother and sisters. This was the beginning of his strong work ethic.

William was a real cowboy, and tough as nails. He moved to Colorado and worked for Hensel Phelps. After many years, he decided to go out on his own and started Bill George Construction Company building homes. Later in his life he worked for Weld County Housing Authority until he was 92 years old.

He married his first wife, Bess Reed, and had 2 children; Richard and Peggy. On October 15, 1992, he married the love of his life, Lillian Renke. Together they enjoyed visiting Blackhawk, going on walks, traveling and spending time with their family. William also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and loved to work. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He leaves behind his sister, Kathy Huey; his son, Richard George; daughter, Peggy Sellens (Bill); four grandkids, Carrie Todd, Brandy Pagel, Tracey Tysdal and Chad Witt; as well as 11 great- grandkids.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Martha; his wife, Lillian George; sisters, Martha Lommer, Frances Morley, and Bertha Lyons; as well as two infant brothers, Robert and Arthur George.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m., both at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street; Greeley, CO 80634. William will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2pm.
