Eugene F. Sawyer

Eugene Frederick Sawyer, age 83, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the Putnam County Hospital

Born January 3, 1929 in Brazil, IN., he was the son of Fred F. and Jean (MacDonald) Sawyer and was a graduate of Brazil High School “class of 1947”. He married Dorothy Jean Endicott on August 27, 1955 and she survives.

He was an United States Army Veteran having served as a Staff Sergeant from 1950 to 1952 in the Korean War. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion.

In 1963 he purchased Kromme Plumbing and Heating and worked there until his retirement. Gene loved to trap shoot and his beloved dog, Buffy.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Anthony Sawyer (Louise), Seabrook, TX, Andrew Sawyer (Lynn) Franklin, TN., Terrence Sawyer, Indianapolis, and Courtney Dickey (Andy), Greencastle; a sister, Joanne Bennett; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Colby Sawyer, Hailey, Andrew and Graham Sawyer, Hannah, Emily and Meghan Dickey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Lydia Claire Dickey.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Putnam County or the Juvenile Diabetes Society.
