She was born on August 11, 1937, in Hazard, Ky to Emerson and Grace (Combs) Oney. Her mother's early death, when Jane was age 13, contributed to her efforts to search for Bible answers. At age 18, the pieces of the puzzle finally came together. In 1954 she dedicated her life and became baptized as a Jehovah Witness. That same year, she received a new stepmother — Marjorie (Morrison) Oney.
In 1956, she married her loving husband, Sheldon Hurley, (deceased) of 52 years. Jane met Sheldon on the Hurley family farm and quickly acquired the same passion he had for raising cows and raising their family. They also built and remodeled homes, rental properties, and also owned Pro-Tec Home Inspections.
She was very self-sacrificing for her family and others. Jane will always be remembered as a dynamic, determined, take charge person. She had a great passion for knowledge and was an avid reader. She loved music, played the piano, clarinet and had a talent for sewing. She was fond of birds and irises. Her greatest joy though came from sharing Bible truths with others and helping them come to know her God Jehovah. She touched the lives of many.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Alisa Calhoun (husband Bill, deceased), son, Bret Hurley (wife Patricia), Brothers Glen Oney, Kevin Oney, and sister, Keira Smith, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and her large spiritual family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 2 pm, Forest Park Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2731 Us-40, Brazil, IN. Upon request, Zoom information available.
