Karen was born in Putnam County on August 23, 1936, the daughter of Harold and Virginia (Myers) Birt, and was a graduate of Greencastle High School.
Mrs. Wood was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, and Greencastle High School Alumni Association.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, William Wood; two daughters, Kasandra Burns, and Monice Buis; 11 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons; Robin Wood and Loren Wood; two infant daughters; and three brothers, Gordon Birt Kevin Starr, and Doyne Starr.
The family will plan a memorial service for the public at a later date.
