

Mitchell was born in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee, on February 24, 1931, the son of Atlas and Myra (Mitchell) Cheatham, and was a 1949 graduate of Southport High School.
Mr. Cheatham worked as a Millwright for Navistar, formerly International Harvester, until his retirement, and founded and pastored the G. T. Haywood Memorial Apostolic Church. He liked to hunt and fish, but most of all, he loved to preach, teach and share his testimony about the Lord.
Survivors include eleven children, Michael Cheatham, Rhonda Harper, (husband-Cleveland), Marcia Pervine, Carolyn Ladd, (husband-Clete), Stephen Cheatham, (wife-Renee), Donald Cheatham, Gary Cheatham, (wife-Elizabeth), Timothy Cheatham, (wife-Cassandra), Lonnie Cheatham, Terry Cobb, and Mitchell Cheatham, (wife-Beatrice); a brother, Robert “Doug” Cheatham, (wife-Roxanna), 2 sisters, Sarah Rivers, and Arah “Maynette” Shelton; 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 39 years, Lois Cheatham; a son David Cheatham; siblings, Bonnie VanCleave, Lonnie, Olis Irish, James, and Nadine Cheatham; five grandchildren, Victor, Christopher, Valerie, and Timothy; a great-grandson, Malachi, and a son-in-law, Richard Pervine.
Services will be held 12:00 Noon, Friday, December 27, 2019, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
