Randall was born in Danville on December 23, 1977.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 22 years, Janelle; four beautiful children, Maverick, Josie, Kassidy, and Drake; a brother, Christopher (wife-Haley); a sister Danielle, and a sister-in-law, Angela Gorham (husband-Troy); along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Randall Lee Summers.
The family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in October 2020, to allow Randy to continue his career as a Network Operation Manager for CSX railroad. Prior to moving, in addition to working for CSX, he was a beloved coach to many young people in the North Putnam Indiana community. He coached soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, track, and football. Many students he coached have expressed how he not only coached them in their sport, but he coached them in life. He mentored and guided many young people helping them to get a firm start on their adult life. A school official said “Randy never gave up on a kid.”
He was also a “coach” to many of his employees as he helped them navigate the railroad world. He took new hires under his wing, guiding them with a combination of a fair, strong hand while having fun. Randy was the one you’d go to if you had a problem. He’d listen with an open mind and when asked, give a common sense opinion.
There wasn’t anything Randy couldn’t do. He baked and decorated cakes (birthday cakes to wedding cakes), he sewed banners for the football field, he was an artist, he could weld, repair a car, and prepare delicious meals. He could also build and upholster furniture. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Best of all, he was a loving family man.
