Shirley Rhea Brattain

She was born in Putnam County on February 21, 1934. Her parents were George and Lucille Herbert and she grew up in Manhattan, Indiana.

She was a 1951 graduate of Reelsville High School. She married Wendell Issac Brattain in 1951 and moved to Madison Township in Putnam County.

Shirley enjoyed her country life (her favorite activity mowing), helping on the farm, involvement in 4-H, and Extension Club. Her and Wendell belonged to the Tamworth Swine Association. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, singing, and craft shows. She was a member of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wendell; a daughter Pamela; her parents; a brother; and a sister.

Shirley is survived by a daughter Marsha; sons Marshall and W. Kent (wife Kim) all of Greencastle; three grandchildren Katey (husband Blaine and two boys), Kalen (wife Becca), and Kallie ( husband Buzz and two girls).

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until time of service.
