

Virgil was born on June 25, 1927 in Indianapolis to Virgil O. and Colleen Sharp. He was a graduate of Fillmore High School and a member of the Methodist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy until July 1946.
On January 11, 1947, Virgil married June (Alexander). They resided in Bainbridge for fifty-five years. Virgil owned and operated Sharp’s Auto and Body Repair. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department, which he enjoyed a great deal. In addition, he served as president of the Bainbridge Business Men’s Association and the Bainbridge Gun Club. In 1968 Virgil began his career with State Farm Insurance as an agent in Bainbridge and later moved the agency to Washington Street in Greencastle. He retired in 1990 after servicing his region for twenty-two years. During retirement, Virgil enjoyed spending summers in Indiana and winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama with June and their many friends.
Virgil will be dearly missed by his family who survives: his wife, June; sons and their wives, Rick (Laura) Sharp, Greencastle; Randy (Anita) Knoxville, TN; Rodney (Chris) Georgetown, KY; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Rob) Baker, Seymour; Tamie (Ryan) Morrison, Columbia city; Brad (Tracy) Sharp, Knoxville, TN; Dana Sharp, Chattanooga, TN; Stacy Sharp, Georgetown, KY; Amy (Nicholas) Clark, Georgetown, KY; step grandchildren, Kristen (Eric) Vermillion, Ryan Queen, Matt Queen, five great-grandchildren , Madison, Alyson, Chloe, Gabriel and Samuel; sister-in-law, Norma Payne; and several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at 2 P.M. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, with Chaplain Steve Williams officiating. Interment with Honors will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home
