He was born on June 16, 1928 in Parke County to William J. Knauer and Hazel E. Phelps Knauer.
Bill was a graduate of Greencastle High School and had worked at Otto’s Gas in Brazil.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim Knauer; son-in-law, Jack Allee and a daughter-in-law, Christa Knauer.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Doris J. Cox Knauer; three children, Mike Knauer and significant other Brenda of Greencastle, June Ellen Query and husband Richard of Reelsville and Diane Allee of Greencastle; two brothers, Robert Knauer and wife Virginia of Loveland, Ohio, and Marvin Knauer and wife Angie of Montana; 8 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Little Walnut Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 to 7 P.M. and on Friday from 12 noon until time of services at the funeral home.
