William Fredrick Newgent

Born November 11, 1968 in Indianapolis, the son of the late John and Willa Rose (Green) Newgent. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1988” and received his Associates Degree from Ivy Tech in Auto Mechanics.

Bill retired from the Greencastle Fire Department in 2016, serving 23 years overall, 16 years as the Fire Chief. Prior to becoming a full time fireman, he volunteered at both Madison Township Fire Department and Greencastle Fire Department. He was also a part of Task Force 7 incident command team. A member and past president of Indiana Fire Chiefs Association and a board member for Hoosier Burn Camp for several years.

Bill owns and operated JTN Services and JTN Outdoor Power.

He also served as President of Putnam County Airport Board, President of Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Merit Board, a member of the Masonic Lodge and an Eagle Scout.

He enjoyed many years of racing with friends and family. He also enjoyed attending sporting events, spending time on his boat and cheering for Purdue.

Bill is survived by his children, Jonathan (Hannah) Newgent and Nicole (Corbin Judy) Newgent; granddaughter Parker; sister Rose Marie (Scott) Morge; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Greencastle Christian Church 620 Primrose Lane Greencastle, IN. Interment will follow at the Union Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 26th at the church with a past & present Firefighters Walk Thru to be held at 6:00 PM.

While being a part of the fire service most of his life he spent time serving others. He continues this legacy by giving the gift of life through organ donation.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Bill to the Hoosier Burn Camp or Greencastle Professional Firefighters Union #5125.
