Alison enjoyed connecting with others through the things she loved most, whether it was discussing books with one of her many book clubs, going to the movies, or completing a cross stitch or needlepoint project. She was also active in her daughters’ Girl Scout troops, chaperoning trips and serving in leadership roles. Alison was an avid lover of any and all cats, caring for many throughout her lifetime since she was a little girl.
After her daughters entered high school, Alison enrolled at UNCG to complete her Bachelor’s degree in English, later going on to earn a Master’s in Liberal Studies there. She remained at UNCG as a Continuing Education advisor, where she helped guide other adult students who, like herself, were returning to further their education later in life.
Alison was preceded in death by her husband, Euin Swafford and sister, Patricia Kernen.
She is survived by her daughters Lauren and Jennifer Swafford; nieces, Cheryl (Pat) McNeil, Linda (David) Robinson, Donna (Brian) Carragher, Kristine (Billy) Burton; and nephews, David (JoAnn) Nash, Alan (LeAnn) Nash, Walter Swafford, Allen (Robin) Swafford and Billy (Lisa) Swafford.
Her daughters would like to extend their gratitude to Norma Gregory and Diane Loy for their care and support of Mrs. Swafford.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 617 North Elm Street, at 1 pm on Saturday, September 6. The family will receive friends following the service in the Redhead Hall at the church.
