A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Church, 1665 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Greensboro, NC with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Tony was born in Gadsen, Alabama and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, attending Ramsey High School. Tony had a successful career in the metals industry for over 35 years, a field in which he was passionate and knowledgeable.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mabron and Elizabeth Cosper Lister; brother, Robert Lister; and sister, Diane Lister Bergeron.
Left to cherish his memory and all their wonderful years together is his loving wife of 57 years, Anne Marus Lister; devoted son, Gregory Scott Lister and wife Shelley; sister in law, Vera Hanna Lister; numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Tony derived great joy from helping others and will be remembered for his generous heart. He was a long time member of Calvary Church, where he will always be known as a welcoming face. An avid sportsman, his love began in high school with football and continuing into his 20s with the game of golf. Winning many tournaments and making many life-long friends, he continued to play into his later years. Tony picked up the sport of tennis, playing on a competitive level and later sparked an interest in racquetball. Both of these allowed him to spend quality time with his son and help guide Greg over the years. Greg will always cherish the memory of the racquetball tournament in Jamestown when the “Listers (Father & Son) compete for the championship”. Throughout his son’s younger life he coached his baseball and soccer teams.
He looked for every opportunity to take Anne and Greg along on his business trips when he could. His career allowed the family to live in many states including; Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia, finally settling back home to Greensboro, NC to finish out his final years in business and retirement. He always made his wife and son feel safe and secure. Tony’s love was always evident.
God truly blessed Tony with an incredibly loving family and extended family. Words cannot adequately express the depth of gratitude in our hearts for the many prayers, acts of kindness, love and friendship extended to us all throughout the years and continuing to Anne and Greg during this time of deep loss.
He will be greatly missed by many treasured friends. Tony was admired and loved for not only his giving spirit but his generous heart that always went out of the way to help others.
