Aubrey Livingston Henderson passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Beacon Place Hospice Care in Greensboro. He was 90 years old. Aubrey was born on May 19, 1934, in Greensboro, the son of Tyre Glenn Henderson and Hazel Heath Henderson. He married Patricia Haithcock Henderson on June 30, 1954. Together, they brought up two daughters who they loved dearly, Melissa and Michele.
Aubrey came to know the Lord as his Savior by the witness of his girlfriend, Patricia, who insisted that he go to church with her. He prayed to receive Jesus at a church service at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Aubrey was a longtime member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. Aubrey and Pat served together in areas including prayer and providing refreshments for people in hospital waiting rooms throughout Greensboro, visitation care, and encouragement for homebound elderly people, and other hospitality ministries. Aubrey and Pat also served for many years at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in the church nursery programs, giving loving care to infants, toddlers, and their families.
Always known for his quiet spirit and sweet personality, Aubrey loved being at church. He loved the people, the singing, and the fellowship. Aubrey developed dementia in later life. He loved the music and singing at church though he never sang. As his dementia progressed in later years, Aubrey started singing at church and even began singing “Happy Birthday” to his family members.
Aubrey retired from the Lorillard Company in 1996 after nearly 40 years of employment there. He spent every moment of his retirement with the love of his life, Pat Henderson. They went everywhere together until Pat’s passing on April 14, 2021. During Aubrey’s later years, he was always optimistic. No matter what was going on he said he was having a great day. He loved watching Andy Griffith and Wheel of Fortune.
In addition to his parents, Aubrey was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda McCormick, and his loving wife, Patricia. Survivors include his daughter Melissa Henderson, daughter Michele Rummage and husband Stephen, and grandson Joshua Rummage and wife Morgan.
