Barbara Ann Ciucci Boyd of Greensboro passed away peacefully in her home, meeting her Lord and Savior in eternity, on February 18, 2015 after a brief struggle with cancer. She enjoyed 85 years of life.
Barbara was born in Richmond, Virginia on November 24, 1929 to Ethel and Joseph Ciucci. She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene R. Boyd and survived by three children; Randy Boyd (Dianne), Gary Boyd (Anne Marie), Leslie Boyd Costas (Jim), and five grandchildren; Chris Costas (Jennifer), Tripp Costas, Natalie Boyd, Taylor Boyd and Courtney Boyd.
Barbara was a lady of loving grace and humor who, together with her husband of 56 years, created a devoted and memorable life for their children. Raising her family in Charlotte, NC, she and Gene moved to Lake Norman and then on to Morehead City, NC before settling in Greensboro just before Gene’s death in 2005.
Barbara was engaged and animated in the life she led, dedicated to her friends as well as her family, and enjoyed gatherings of both, especially at Christmas where celebrations were warm, entertaining, and embraced the strong sense of family that defined the other days of each year.
She enjoyed different careers in her life, but her final one before retirement at 75, was as Office Manager with the Sunshine Lady Foundation and was especially meaningful. The purpose of the Foundation, run by Doris Buffett, “is to invest in programs dedicated to providing opportunities for the advancement of education, well being and new life choices for disadvantaged people with special empathy for the working poor and families in crisis.” One of these programs was of particular interest to Barbara – the Women’s Independence Scholarship Program (WISP), provided assistance and enabling independence to victims of domestic violence.
Funeral services will be held at Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 1804 Guilford College Road, Jamestown on Sunday, February 22nd at 3:30 pm with a visitation at 2:30 pm. A reception will follow at the home of Jim and Leslie Costas. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Jamestown Presbyterian Church or the WISP Foundation (www.wisp.org)
