We will celebrate her life on Saturday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Church, 5200 West Friendly Avenue in Greensboro, NC. The family will receive guests at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband and father of her five children, Billy Friel Edmonds; father, Fredrick Trice Hyman; mother, Edna Ruth Childress; and two brothers, Fredrick Trice Hyman, Jr. and Jack Weldon Hyman. She is survived by her youngest brother, Marshall Craig Hyman of Newport News, VA.
Left to carry on her legacy of Christian love and service are her children and sons-in-love, Barbara Wagoner (Jim), Meadows of Dan, VA; Stephen Edmonds, Greensboro, NC; Karen Smith (Gary), Kernersville, NC; Tami Fields (Bryan), Climax, NC; and Kristi Gouch (Harvey, Jr.), Charlotte, NC, along with 17 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Known lovingly as Mom, Dinnom, and Queen, Barbara was born in Richmond, VA, on August 8, 1936. She married the love of her life, Billy Edmonds on October 3, 1959 and they moved to Greensboro, NC. Together they attended Trinity Church and joined in 1962. They raised their five children at Trinity Church where they were dedicated, baptized, confirmed and several married there. Barbara loved being a full-time homemaker and secretary for her husband's business, Builders Door Service.
In 1979, Barbara was instrumental in starting Pioneer Clubs and was a Pioneer Club Leader and Children's Coordinator, also adding the Pal-Gal mentoring program. Barbara and Billy continued ministering in many capacities, desiring to serve and use their talents. This included being involved with the youth group, parent chaperones on many youth outings, VBS, Sunday School teachers, Children's Church leader, and hosting missionary dinners. They enjoyed serving in many of these areas together and often hosted the youth group for food and fellowship. This led to Barbara joining the staff at Trinity Church as Education Coordinator in 1982.
After suffering the loss of Billy in 1989, Barbara went on to work full-time with her duties expanding as financial administrator. She was passionately committed to building the education programs and ministering to children and youth. Her love for the children was evident to all. At the age of 50, Barbara began leading the "Golden Heirs", a senior adult program, planning monthly meetings with a shared meal, special performances and speakers, as well as enjoyable trips.
Barbara was dedicated and devoted in her love for the people of Trinity Church for 57 years. She also loved her family fiercely. Her children and grandchildren were dear to her heart and knew how deeply they were loved. If she knew you, she loved you! Most of all, she was faithful to her Savior and loved the Word of God. She had numerous Scriptures that impacted her life. One of her favorite verses that guided her ministry was, "All of your children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children." Isaiah 54:13. She has made an impact on our lives that will never be forgotten.
