

Mr. Benjamin David Hicks, age 88, passed away peacefully at home early Friday, December 20, 2013 after several years of declining health. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 22 at 3:00 PM at the Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Road in Greensboro, with internment following at Guilford Memorial Park. Pastor J. R. Gossett of Community Baptist Church will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 1:00-2:45 PM at the Sedgefield chapel prior to the service.
Mr. Hicks (“Bud”) was born in Alexander Mills, NC in 1925. He served four years in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in Connecticut and on the Pacific island of Midway. He graduated from Clemson College (now University) in 1951 with a degree in Textile Manufacturing. He then worked for Burlington Industries, Cone Mills, Dixie Machine and Tool, and Limotorque Corporation.
Bud was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Greensboro for 43 years, where he served in the children’s departments and sang in the choir. For the past 15 years, he has been a member of Community Baptist Church. Bud was married in 1948 to Sara Lee Hicks, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Hicks Ledford (Mike) of Greensboro, and Janice Hicks Mueller (Andy) of Columbia, SC. Bud and Sara have one granddaughter, Miriam Ledford Vinson (Aaron) of Greensboro, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Katrine Vinson. Other surviving relatives are brother Clyde Hicks (Jean) of Monroe, NC, sister-in-law Ada Hicks of Rock Hill, SC and a host of nieces and nephews. Bud is predeceased by parents Wayne and Lorena Hicks, three brothers and one sister.
