

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407, with Rev. Bruce Vaughn, officiating. Betty will be laid to rest immediately following the service in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Born in Guilford County, on July 21, 1941, to the late Julius and Mary Newell, Betty was a member of Eller Memorial Baptist Church, in Greensboro. She retired from Harris Teeter as an Assistant Manager, enjoyed trips to the beach and loved crafting. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Claude T. Permar; two sisters, Pat Newell and Eva Miles; and two brothers, William Newell and Larry Newell; niece Sharon Newell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Amy Turner (Eddie); her brother, Wayne Newell (Jean); sister-in- law Joann Newell, Pat Neelley; nieces, Melissa Laskowski, Vicky Davis and Terri Turner; nephews, Michael Newell, Nicholas Turner, John Miles, Jr. and Phillip Miles; several great-nieces and great-nephews and other extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eller Memorial Baptist Church, 1124 Walnut St., Greensboro, NC 27405.
