April 24, 1935 – February 11, 2025
Billy Marion Broach Sr. passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, at 3:14 AM at the age of 89 at Guilford Health Care Center. He was born on April 24, 1935, in Florence, SC, to Samuel Cornelius Broach and Pauline Friar Broach.
Billy had a long and fulfilling career with Freightliner as a commercial-grade diesel mechanic, work he truly enjoyed—something evident in the more than 30 grease-stained work shirts still hanging in the basement of his family home of over 50 years in Greensboro, NC. His extensive VHS collection of NASCAR races and Braves baseball games could likely rival that of ESPN. A quick-witted jokester to those who saw beyond his quiet and stoic appearance, Billy was a devoted Southern husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially a bowl of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
Billy is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, whom he lovingly called "Franc," Frances Lorine Morris Broach; his sons Bill Broach Jr. (Elizabeth), Steve Broach (Lori), and Mike Broach; and his grandchildren Elizabeth "Buffy" Brown (Carlson), Michael Broach Jr. (Tracie), Mary Autwell (Seth), Matthew Broach, Robbie Broach (Angie), Chelsea Coalter (Brandon), Joshua Broach (Halen), Sydney Broach (Matt), and Cicely Swartzlander (Matt). He is also survived by 21 loving great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Billy was preceded in death by his son, David Broach; daughter-in-law, Angie Broach; grandsons, Cody Broach and Noah Broach; his parents, Sam and Pauline Broach; and siblings, Carl Broach, Rudolph Broach, Elorie Broach Weaver, Margaret Broach Green, Ralph Broach, Mary Broach Miller and Marco Broach.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Bridge of Hope Church, 4104 Short Farm Rd, Greensboro, NC 27406, with a funeral service following at 2:00 PM. A graveside interment will take place immediately afterward at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407.
Billy will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Billy's name to the Bridge of Hope Church.
