Bruce Gordon Whitley Jr.

Mr. Bruce Gordon Whitley, Jr. 67, a resident of Whitsett departed from this life on Wednesday July 18, 2012 at the Hospice Home of Burlington. Mr. Whitley was born August 8, 1944 in Rocky Mount, the son of Bruce Gordon Whitley, Sr. and Billie Marley Whitley. He was a graduate of Greensboro High School and was a long distance driver for over 40 years with Thurston Motor Lines and Epes Transport. Mr. Whitley was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He would always put everyone else’s needs above his own.

Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his parents.

On August 31, 1969 he married the love of his life, the former Bonnie Cluff. Surviving in addition to his wife Bonnie C. Whitley is one daughter, Barbara L. Whitley Ambrose and her husband MAJ Lee Ambrose, U.S. Army of AL; one son, Brian E. Whitley and his wife Christina A. Whitley of Snow Camp; two sisters, Martha W. Jones and husband James and Susie W. Little and husband Lonnie all of Greensboro and three grandchildren, Brittany, Austin and Brandon Whitley.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Ken Smith. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
