Greensboro- Mr. Jerry C. “Buddy” Blackmon, 76, died October 17, 2014 after a motorcycle accident. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 1:30 PM, October 22, at First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the parlor from 12:30 to 1:30 PM prior to the service.
Buddy was born in Forsyth County to the late John and Elsie Blackmon. He served with the Military Police in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg. Buddy will be remembered as a spontaneous free spirit with a quick wit and a true people person. He was passionate about buying and selling cars and was always looking for the next great deal. He received his pilot’s license in 1970 and enjoyed taking his family to the mountains and the beach by air. Buddy was an avid history buff, made a point to keep up the news and wasn’t shy about his political standings. He was never afraid to take up a new experience or hobby, most recently he was learning guitar. His four-legged friends, Micky and Murphy were always by his side. Buddy joined Wholesale Ceramic Tile in 1960 and became the owner in 1983. Never asking for anything in return, Buddy always reached out to people in need, both young and old, willing to give or help in any way he could. He was a 32nd degree Mason (Gate City Lodge #694), an Oasis Temple Shriner and life time member of Elk Lodge #602.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Youngdahl and her daughter, Lindsay of Greensboro. He is preceded in death by five siblings.
