She was a native of Robeson County, NC, born May 24, 1938, to the late Willie Robert Maynard and Effie Oxendine Maynard. Callie worked at Ruzicka Book Binding for several years before leaving to be a stay-at-home mother. Additionally, she worked from home doing bookkeeping before eventually going to work for her church full-time. She retired from Aycock Fellowship Ministries in Greensboro (formerly First Pentecostal Holiness Church) where she held the position of secretary / treasurer for 40 years. Throughout her years of service, she wore multiple hats at the church. Many knew her as “Callie’s Kids Class Teacher”, or the “Kitchen Keeper” (always with her apron). She was also the director of the senior citizens group “Treasures of the Heart”. She organized trips for senior citizens which were paid for by fund raisers she put together. This allowed many seniors to go places they would normally be unable to visit. She later became known as the most loved “Baby Rocker” in the church nursery. Callie loved to sing in the church choir as well as with her family – The Maynard Family Singers. Whenever there was a function or need, Callie was there with a kind heart, a loving smile and usually something fresh out of the oven. In her later years she attended different churches with her brother, Tracy and still helped serve others whenever she could. She was respected and loved by all those who knew her. She was a faithful servant to her Lord, family and friends until her health began to decline.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo “Bo” Hopkins, brothers, Bracy Maynard, Max Maynard, E.C. Maynard, Eugene Maynard and Bob Maynard; sisters, Etta Mae Maynard Lowry, Eunice Maynard Wallace and Betty Maynard Ledbetter.
Those left to treasure her memory are her beloved son, Todd Hopkins and his wife, Pam; along with her cherished grandson, Toby Hopkins. Callie is also survived by her younger brother and best friend, Tracy Maynard, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 9, 2025, immediately followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Callie will be laid to rest next to her late husband, in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina.
