Carol Jean Newman

Carol Jean Newman, 87 of Cary, North Carolina passed away peacefully at Pennybyrn on Saturday August 26, 2023. Carol was born on February 16, 1936 in New York to Elmer and Lillian Evans. Carol married her loving husband William on March 25, 1956 and they were married for 66 years.

Carol was a faithful follower of her Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Cary Alliance Church. She served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and found great joy serving in BSF for more than a decade as a children’s leader. Carol was a second grade teacher by training and graduated from Hunter College in New York City in 1957. She volunteered as an ESL tutor and with Meals on Wheels and also worked as a dental assistant.

Carol loved spending time with her husband, family, and friends as well as creating delicious meals, and a cozy, welcoming home. She enjoyed traveling with her family and planned many family adventures including a family hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In later years she and Bill enjoyed trips out west and to Hawaii. She particularly enjoyed crafting and her knitting group who met regularly.

Carol is survived by her sister Mary, son Richard (Lisa), daughter Jeanne (Dan) Reppert, and daughter Debbie (Scott) Cornelius. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Melissa, Maria, Sierra, Lily (James), Annabelle (Stephen), Nicolas and Lindsay, her great granddaughters Ellie and Tillie, and many nieces and nephews. Carol was the oldest of three children. Preceding her in death was her sister, Priscilla Evans.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will always be in our hearts and we join her in the certainty that we will see her again together with our Lord.

Carol’s family is deeply grateful to the Sisters and the staff of Pennybyrn who provided tremendous care, love and support for her. In lieu of flowers, the family knows Carol would appreciate donations to be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at Pennybyrn (Attn: Development), 109 Penny Rd., High Point, NC 27260.

A memorial service will be held for Carol on September 16, 2023 at 1:30 at the Cary Alliance Church, 4108 Ten-Ten Road, Apex, NC, 27539.
