Carolyn Falls Grove died peacefully with family at her side on April 29, 2023. Born in Shelby, she attended Shelby High School and had very fond memories of Young Life, including YL Camp in Colorado. She graduated with a BA in English from Woman’s College (now UNCG) and married Frank M Grove III in 1955. They lived in Atlanta where she was an English teacher at North Fulton High School. Upon their relocating back to Greensboro, she taught at Guilford County schools before becoming a full time homemaker. She was an avid gardener, cook, and reader, and continued her involvement with Young Life as a small group leader. She was very proud of her home and the many improvements she oversaw over the years, especially the large sunroom she designed and had built. She looked forward to yearly trips with her husband and family to Pisgah Inn near Asheville. She was a devoted Christian and member of Salem Presbyterian Church in Alamance County. Having raised three children, she would eventually become a beloved grandmother and great grandmother.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tilden and Leah Falls of Shelby and her husband Frank M. Grove, III. She is survived by her brother Bryan Falls of Charlotte; daughter, Suellen McCrary (John) of High Point; sons, Frank “Butch” Grove (Tammy) and Matthew P. Grove (Beth) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Patrick McCrary (Kristin) of Raleigh, Sara McCrary Strassell (Andrew), and Frankie Grove of Jacksonville, Florida. She also is survived by three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 2:00 pm at Green Hill cemetery in Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to AuthoraCare Collection at 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or Salem Presbyterian Church at 2383 Burch Bridge Rd, Burlington, NC 27217.
