Elm St. Chapel on Thursday, April 9th with a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, April 10th at 11 am.
Catherine was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 23, 1934. She graduated from Annunciation High School and was employed as an executive secretary at Alcoa Steel in downtown Pittsburgh until she became a full time homemaker and mother of three. Catherine had a tremendous love for life and was active in Garden Club and Gourmet Club. She was also an active volunteer for various organizations including Norwich Hospital, The Weatherspoon Gallery, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetic Association. She travelled extensively during her life and even lived abroad in England for five years with her husband. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and rarely missed a game.
Catherine’s greatest love, however, was her love of family and friends. She often said the best times of her life were spent with her family during holidays in Pittsburgh and at Sunset Beach. She loved to entertain and never met a stranger. She had the gift of being able to walk into a room full of people and make each and every person feel special. Her social grace was extraordinary and she carried this gift with her to the very end.
Catherine is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert Parker Halliday, also of Oak Ridge, NC. She is also survived by her three daughters and sons in laws, Kathy and Louis Shultz of Swedesboro, NJ; Patricia and Steve Paiewonsky of Stroudsburg, PA and Karen Pulaski of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Edward and Ellen Vaughan, her sisters Patricia LaLonde and MaryEllen McNickle, all of Pittsburgh, and her son in law, Kevin Pulaski of Oak Ridge, NC.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Ennever and his staff, always faithful in her care as well as the outstanding staff who cared for her at Beacon Place. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be given in her name to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro , 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
