Charles Elliott "Sonny" Covert

Charles Elliott “Sonny” Covert, 75, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital. Charles was born on November 22, 1937 in Guilford County, NC, the son of Elliott Floyd and Nannie Mae Kirkman Covert.

He served his country in the US Navy. Following his military service, Sonny worked with Carolina Southern Trucking as an over the road driver and also as a security guard until his retirement. Sonny was a member of South Elm Street Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be missed by all.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Barbara Covert of the home; children, David Wayne Covert and wife Tina of Randleman, NC, Pamela Joan Covert Bruggeman of Greensboro, NC, Deborah Covert Buckner and fiancé Rick Jones of Greensboro, NC, Jackie Eugene Edwards Jr. and fiancé Stephanie R. Lord of Spruce Pine, NC; sisters; Hazel Davis and husband Richard of Greensboro, NC, Barbara Scott Jones and husband Frank of Lakeland, FL, Mildred Gray and husband David of Randleman, NC; grandchildren; April Michelle Mahoney, Cynthia Lynn Hicks, David Joseph Covert, James Allen Covert, Brittany Ann Buckner, Katherine Ann Edwards, Austin Trent Edwards and Camden Douglas Edwards and great grandchildren; Anthony Clayton Eggers, Joseph Xzavior Hicks and Jacob Jaden Hicks.

A Celebration of Charles life will be held on Thursday evening, 7:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel with Rev. Dr. Lawrence Clapp officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
