

It is with deep love and solemn remembrance that we announce the passing of David Lee Callahan, a resident of Gibsonville. He passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 79. He was a proud veteran, dedicated public servant, and beloved family member.
He was born April 14, 1946, in Greenville, SC, the son of David Robert and Bernice Ward Callahan. Lee served his country with honor as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. While courageously serving in combat, he was wounded after stepping on a landmine, an act of sacrifice for which he was awarded the Purple Heart, as well as the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following his military service, Lee continued to serve his community through a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service in Greensboro, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. Known for his resilience, quiet strength, and dry wit, Lee touched many lives with his steady presence and unwavering integrity.
He was married to Janet Mary Callahan who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, David and Bernice; a sister, Patricia C. Fields; a stepson, Randy Scheid and a granddaughter, Nicole Scheid.
Surviving are two sons: David Lee Callahan, Jr and wife Pat of Greensboro; Kenneth McMahon of Greensboro; one daughter; Lisa Wilson and husband Randy of Climax; three brothers, Billy Callahan and wife Debbie of Greensboro, Donald Callahan and Thresia of McLeansville, Charles Callahan and wife Barbara of LaGrange; step-son, James Scheid of Gibsonville; two grandchildren, David Wayne Callahan and Demishia Alford of Greensboro; Brittany Callahan of Greensboro; Great-grandchild, Asia Tyson of Greensboro; nieces and nephews, Ashley Pelletier and husband Michael of Madison; Brian Callahan and wife Jessica of Greensboro; Tracie Reece and husband Robert of Pfafftown; Renee Fields of Kernersville; Jason Callahan and wife Melissa of Pleasant Garden; Alaina Callahan of Billerica, MA; Houston Satterfield and husband Adam of Greensboro; Shannon Byerly and husband Alan of McLeansville and Pam Callahan of Greensboro.
Lee will be remembered not only for his service and sacrifice but also for the quiet way he carried the weight of life—with dignity, loyalty, and a steadfast spirit.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday June 7, 2025, at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Pastor Nick McQuodale. Interment with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Serving as pallbearers for him will be David Wayne Callahan, David Phillips, Matthew Johnson, Billy Foust, Rodney Knott and Gordon Hurley.
