

Born in Newark, New Jersey, on November 2, 1938, he was the son of LeRoy and Janet Morton Lumpkin. His family provided and supported his deeply religious beliefs throughout his life.
Davis graduated from high school and joined the US Navy. After his 4 year tour, he graduated from NC State University. He worked for the Lockheed Georgia Co. detailing the C-5A Galaxy. He moved to NC and devoted his professional life to higher education facilities leadership in UNC Wilmington and serving as Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities at UNC Greensboro until his retirement in 2008.
Davis was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was an adult Sunday School teacher and very active in the life of the church community.
A longtime member of the Sports Car Club of America, Georgia Sports Car Club, and Porsche Club of America. He was a past president of Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellows. Davis held every office, reflecting the same careful commitment and reliability that defined so much of his life. He also served as a Bryan YMCA board member.
Davis will be remembered as a dedicated, thorough, intuitive, loving & caring engineer whose steady presence and thoughtful guidance touched the lives of family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Davis was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Hoyt and her husband Richard, and his brother-in-law, Douglas Pemberton.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Lumpkin; son, Greg Lumpkin of Greensboro; daughter, Karen Culbertson (Jamey) of Palm Coast, FL; sister, Sue Pemberton of Clear Water, FL; grandchildren, Heather Winter (Chad Sparks) and Brandon Winter; Sebastian and Noah Lumpkin; great grandchildren, Mia Winter and Layla Sparks.
A service to celebrate Davis's life will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 o’clock at Westminster Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow at the church.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Davis’s name be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3906 W Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC 27410 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
