

A memorial service will be held at Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church on Friday, June 10th at 11a.m. The family will receive friends following the service.
Deborah was born January 20, 1944 in Wilmington, NC to Newton Laverne Simmons Sr. and Ruth Blanchard Shaw. She was a friend to all who met her. She loved her church where she served on the Staff Parish Committee and with the Golden Treasures. Deborah loved traveling and some of her excursions included Greece, Alaska, and Caribbean, but her favorite was the North Carolina Coast with her husband. She worked for F.W. Woolworth's for over a decade as the District Operations Coordinator.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Paula Hudson and brothers Newton Simmons Jr. and Jefferson Simmons.
Surviving are devoted husband of 36 years David Knowles; children, Lynn Profenno, Becky Hudson and Lary D. Hudson Jr.; step-children, Kim Priddy and Ralph Knowles; sister, Martha Johnson; brothers, Bruce Williams and Van Sturgeon; thirteen grandchildren. She also loved her dogs, Artie and Hannah.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beacon Place (2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405) and Lee’s Chapel UMC for their Monday Night Live program (2303 Lees Chapel Rd, Greensboro, NC 27405).
