

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd. in Greensboro.
Doris was born May 20, 1934 in Alamance County to the late Rev. Leslie and Ruth Curl. She attended Living Stone Family Church in Raleigh while living with her daughter Suzanne for the past couple years. Doris worked for a while as a bank teller for Jefferson Savings and Loan in St. Louis, Missouri, then worked for Planters Peanut Company before becoming a teacher, music director, and secretary for Baynes Happy Day Nursery for over 30 years. She was a professional cake decorator and had the honor of decorating a birthday cake for the Rev. Dr. Billy Graham. Doris loved animals, was an avid reader, enjoyed gospel and country music, and the challenge of putting together jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Cockerham and R. C. Everly; a sister, Jeanette Curl Edwards; her brother, Kenneth “Buddy” D. Curl, and her two favorite canine companions, Sasha.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Ken Cockerham (Cathy) of Greensboro, Jeani Hansford (John) of Prairie Village, Kansas , Suzanne Otstot (Charles) of Wake Forest, and Rick Everly (Dawn) of Randleman; sister, Linda B. Davis (Danny) of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Chris Cockerham, Clint Crabtree, Caitlin Ogren, Bailey Hansford, Molly Higgins, Maggie Ogren, Hayley Hansford, Jake Hansford, Grant Love, and David Otstot; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Brayden, and Deklyn; four nieces; 1 nephew; and her best friend Jean Brockman of Pleasant Garden.
