

She was the daughter of the late James F. Swaney and Mary McIntyre Swaney Makedonas and the wife of the late Douglas I. Green for sixty-four years.
Dorothy was president of Bessemer Woman’s Club, had charge of Saturday morning swim parties for young guests and did various community volunteering. She retired from Sears after seventeen years of service. Her hobbies included picture puzzles and scrapbooking.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. She was the mother of five children: Dr. Mark D. Green (Allister) of Bradenton, FL, Michael S. Green (Susan) of Reidsville, NC, Gary S. Green of Columbus, GA, Kelly G. Rush (Chuck) of Greensboro, NC and Christopher D. Green of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Heather R. Hedrick (Josh) of Thomasville, NC, William C. Rush, Jr. (Sarah) of Winston Salem, NC, M. Taylor Rush of Winston Salem, NC and Blair A. Green of Bradenton, FL; and one great grandson, Owen Rush Hedrick of Thomasville, NC.
Dorothy was known to her family and their friends as Mommy Dot.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Pius The Tenth Catholic Church.
Family visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 9:00 am at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Deacon Ron Steinkamp officiating. Interment will follow the service at Guilford Memorial Park.
