Edna J. Posey

Edna was born to Robert Thomas Joyce and Roxie Mills Joyce of Mayodan, NC, April 27th, 1922. Graduated from Mayodan High School in 1939. Edna attended Roanoke Business College and worked at Washington Mills in Mayodan. Edna attended Mayodan Episcopal Church and was married there in 1951 to John Thomas Posey, Sr. of Greensboro, NC.

Edna lived, worked and had family in Greensboro. John, Sr. served in the US Army in WWII with the rank of Sergeant in the 117th Combat Engineers Battalion, Third US Army. His service included combat in France and during the Battle of the Bulge and Germany until War’s end. John, Sr. died October 28, 1966 and buried in the Veterans Memorial of Forest Lawn Cemetery. Edna worked in the administrative offices of Bates Nitewear, Desoto Chemical and Dixie Machine & Tool retiring at 73. Edna attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Greensboro, moved to Jamestown, NC and was active in Jamestown Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. Edna then resided in independent and assisted living at the Wesley Woods Center of Emory University in Atlanta, GA, from 2005 through 2018 and was very active in the post-retirement social fabric of that center. Edna’s last happy months were spent at The Laurels of Chatham from late 2018 until passing away.

Edna was the second oldest of seven children; brothers and sisters, Wilbur, Mildred, Dorothy, Ruth, Robert and Roger. She is survived only by brother Robert Theodore Joyce residing in Mayodan, NC, with spouse Patsy Joyce. Edna has two children, John Thomas Posey, Jr., living in Richland, WA, with spouse Laurie Zimmerman, MD, and David William Posey, living in Staley, NC, with spouse Kathryn Denny Posey. John, Jr. with former spouse Tamera Hatchett Posey of Cumming, GA, had four children, John Thomas Posey, III of Marietta, GA, Leia Michelle Terry of Bowie, MD, Christopher Allen Posey of Murfreesboro, TN, and Lydia Allison Posey of Cumming, GA. David had three children, Kathleen Posey Daniel of Willow Spring, NC, David William Posey, Jr., of Apollo, PA, and Shannon Denise Posey of Easley, SC. Fiance’s and spouses of the grandchildren are Michelle Vo, Ian Terry, Angel Huff Posey, Tyler Winchester Daniel, Shanda Bullock Posey and Brian Thrift. Great-grandchildren are Raelynn Grace Posey, Maya Fontaine Posey, Kaela Lillian Daniel, Savannah Mae Daniel, Aubrey Marie Daniel, Alexander Jacob Posey and Aiden Julius Posey.

Edna had a number of nieces and nephews she loved dearly and was loved dearly by them: The Hager family, Bob and Mildred (Mickey), and their seven children, Roxanne, Robert, Joyce, Michael, Mary Ann, Susan and Paul. The Graham Family, Allen and Dorothy, and their two sons, Michael and Mark. The Drake Family, Red and Ruth, their boys, Johnny and Bob, with grandniece Amy Beth and Bob’s spouse Sam Chai and her sons Robert and Bill. The Robert Joyce Family, Bobby and Edna Mae, their three children, Todd, David and Jennifer, and Patsy his current spouse. The Joyce family, Wilbur and Eileen with son Tom.

Funeral services and events will be at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N Elm St. in Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM May 9th at Hanes Lineberry and funeral services at 11:00 AM May 10th also at Hanes Lineberry followed with graveside services at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Pisgah Church Rd. in Greensboro, returning to Hanes Lineberry for a reception.
