

Elliot “Shaffer” Elkins, Sr., passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at his residence in Greensboro. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 27, at Church Street Baptist Church, 3113 North Church Street, with Reverend Tyler Gaulden officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Boulevard.
Shaffer was born January 24, 1933, in Greensboro, NC, son of the late William Lacy and Ethel Berry Elkins. He retired from Resco Products in 1999. He loved being outside, whether it was planting flowers or mowing the lawn. Shaffer proudly served his country while in the United States Army. He was a member of Church Street Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and he was a member of a quartet.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis and Augustus “Bud” Elkins and sister, Gloria Tesh. He is survived by his wife, Jane W. Elkins; daughter, Tammie Johnson (Billy); son, Shaffer Elkins, Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley Murray (Zach), Billy “Tripp” Turner Johnson, III, Leeann Shaw (Jospeh), Marie McLamb (Kaleb), David Tyler Elkins; great grandchildren, Ashlyn Sky McLam, Hayden Elizabeth Murray, Christian Levi Murray and Weston Cole Murray; sister-in-law, Jerri Trexler and fur baby, Scooter. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
