

Gayle was born on March 13, 1942, to Ela Ricketts and Edmond Eugene Denney in Madison, Tennessee. In 1960, she graduated from Madison High School, and in 1964, graduated with a B.A. in English from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (now Tennessee Tech) in Cookeville, Tennessee.
She then taught English and French in Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.
In 1977, Gayle joined The Clinton Press in Greensboro as office manager and remained with the printing company until she retired in 2008.
Gayle was predeceased by her parents Ela and Edmond Denney, and brother Johnny Denney. She is survived by her sister-in-law Ann Denney, niece LeAnne (Todd) Esque and family, nephew Jon (Tammy) Denney and family of Gallatin, Tennessee.
Gayle is remembered by her childhood friends Linda Hall and Pat "Teeta" Hankins of Madison and North Carolina friends Debra Barta, Hermann Trojanowski, and Beth Howle, as having a keen intellect, lover of cats, great cook, and avid reader.

Gayle is resting in peace with her parents at the family plot at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association; Community Homecare and Hospice of Asheboro, 533 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27703; or the National Kidney Foundation.
