Evelyn “Patty” Gillie Hodgin, 88, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Friday January 27, 2017. Patty was born September 27, 1928 in Guilford County, the daughter of James Cymple and Mamie Ferguson Gillie.
She was the last living charter member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Patty was married to James Boyd Hodgin who preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Deborah Lynne Hodgin Reynolds; her son, James Daniel “Danny” Hodgin; four sisters, Mallie Mae G. McFarland, Jane "Sugar" G. Garver, Christine G. Briggs, Isabelle G. Carter and three brothers, James Gillie, Lester Gillie and Dowell Gillie.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawne Hodgin Shumate and husband Doug of Greensboro and her sister, Margie Gillie Farmer of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Tuesday at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1304 Merritt Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407 with the Reverend Phyllis Coates, Reverend Steve Roberts and Bryan Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
