

George W. Rentz , 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away on September 28, 2024, in the hospice unit of the Veterans hospital in Salisbury, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. George was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia to Lorene (Beecher) Rentz and Clifford Rentz. George graduated from Jeff Davis High School and joined the United States Marine Corp, where he served in the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara McEachin. They celebrated their 57th anniversary in January. George was employed for 33 years with PPG Industries, moving several times during his career. He retired in 2000 as a Regional Manager of the Baltimore/Washington, DC area. George and Barbara moved to Greensboro in 2003, to be closer to their son, Douglas Rentz (Meredith) and grandson, Bradley Rentz (Jenny).
George loved old cars, country music, and helping others in any way he could. He was always telling jokes and was the life of any occasion. He was a devoted family man. George is survived by his siblings Larry Rentz, Euleta Coleman, and Sharon Rentz of Georgia, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Veterans hospital, Community Living Center and the Hospice Center in Salisbury for their care of George in his final days.
There will be no service or visitation. A celebration of life may be announced at a later date, pending approval of internment at the Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury.
