With broken but faithful hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Glenda Gaye Pickle Ozment into her Lord and Saviour's loving arms on Good Friday, April 3, 2026.It is perfect that Holy Week was her homecoming because her health battle began 18 years ago, to the day, when she underwent triple bypass surgery. We fondly remember that she woke up that Easter morning and announced, "He is Risen!"
Just six short years later, she began the toughest fight of her life (lasting twelve years) against stage three ovarian cancer. And this year on Good Friday, she won that fight surrounded by her family encouraging her. We find hope and comfort in knowing "It is Finished."
Glenda was born to Walter Glen and Helen Marie Pickle on January 31, 1944, in Smyth County, Virginia. She is preceded in death by both parents, her sister Wanda, and her sister Patsy. She is survived by her faithful husband of 63 years, Ronald, her daughters, Mandy/Amanda (Trey), Jennifer (David), Grandchildren, Chase (Kaylee), Skylar (Scott), and Grayson. She also leaves behind her first beloved Great Granddaughter, Harper Ann.
Glenda and Ronald met in Greensboro, NC while just in grammar school. They began dating in high school and got married shortly thereafter. Their godly marriage was a beautiful example of love, commitment, and friendship. It encouraged and inspired many as they were buddies. Many of Mandy and Jennifer's friends referred to them as second parents.
They were faithful members of the Lutheran Church of Our Father for over 50 years. They loved and served their church family and community joyfully.
Upon moving to Fuquay Varina, NC eight years ago (to be close to their family), they joined Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, NC. Though health issues often interfered with their physical attendance, they watched online and administered communion to each other regularly.
Glenda lived life to its fullest. While she enjoyed simple things like gardening and caring for her flowers, or baking banana nut bread, she also enjoyed the more formal things of life- never missing an opportunity to dress up or set a beautiful table.
Glenda and Ronald prioritized family vacations. We always had a summer trip where we made great memories. From Broadway shows in NYC to tents in Yosemite, we laughed a lot!
As empty nesters, they expanded their horizons and frequently traveled with his brother Monroe and wife, Babs. During these escapades, Glenda fearlessly danced the hula onstage with Rayleen in Hawaii, accompanied the Indians with a rain dance at a Native American festival in Wyoming, and even took the stage with Don Ho! She had fun!
There were also several trips abroad that Glenda and Ron enthusiastically explored. Perhaps most notably, they spent time with close friends who took them "behind the scenes" in England where he had grown up.
But Glenda's fondest days were spent watching her kids and grandkids (whom she adored) play sports and perform in various activities. She was a fabulous cheerleader, as well as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School Teacher.
Glenda also loved pretty clothes, swimming, water aerobics, all kinds of music, and volunteering at Moses Cone Cardiovascular Rehab facility. She diligently researched her and Ronald's ancestry and loved to visit cemeteries where some of her ancestors were laid to rest. She even visited her ancestral land in Dorchester, England.
Glenda was the Sumner High School Valedictorian (1962) and attended the Women's College (UNCG) where she completed a secretarial program. She was employed by Prudential Insurance before her daughters were born, and later at Investors Title Insurance Company where she worked as an underwriter and office manager.
She lived every day with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She humbly put others before herself. She chose gratitude and lived without fear, encouraged by her faith and driven by grit. She was honest and truthful and was often humorous without realizing she would be. She was fierce and beautiful both inside and out. She will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved her as we look forward to reuniting with her through Jesus.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 2:00pm at the Lutheran Church of Our Father, 3304 Groometown Road, Greensboro, NC 27407. A graveside prayer will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W. Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27407.
