A graduate of J.M. Morehead High School, Gloria went on to pursue her passion for science and healthcare, earning her education through the UNC Chapel Hill School of Radiologic Technology and later graduating from Greensboro College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. From an early age, Gloria developed a strong sense of independence that guided her throughout her life.
Gloria dedicated her professional life to education and mentorship in the field of radiology. She spent many years teaching and guiding students in Radiologic Technology Services at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, where she later served as Director and Business Manager. Her leadership, knowledge, and commitment left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. She retired in 2009 after a distinguished and meaningful career.
She was a lifetime member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and the North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists. Gloria served in numerous leadership roles, including president, and was honored as a Reeves & Rousseau recipient, the organizations’ highest recognition for outstanding service and dedication to the profession.
Known for her passion for life, Gloria embraced every opportunity to explore and enjoy new experiences. She had a deep love of travel, snow skiing, and sports, and was an avid fan of UNC Tar Heel sports. Over the years, she also cherished her beloved pets, including her cocker spaniels, cockapoo, and cat, who brought her great joy and companionship. Above all, she was devoted to her family and cherished the time spent with those she loved, especially traveling with close friends and family.
Gloria is survived by her brother, Ron (Cara); her adored young niece, Rylee; her godson, Ryan Dunlap (Chrissy); and extended family and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Chapel, 617 N. Elm Street. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greensboro SPCA, the Dementia Society of America, or First Presbyterian Church’s “Hot Dish and Hope” ministry.
Her love for family and friends will continue to guide and comfort those she leaves behind.
