Born on November 13, 1933, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Harold was the son of Josephine Bethania Moser Messick and David Furches Messick.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Harold shared 66 years of marriage with his wife Betty Jane Hester Messick. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family.
Harold was a veteran of the United States Army and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in architecture. After graduation, Harold worked for McMinn Northfleet and Wicker as an architect. He also worked for First Home Federal Savings and Loan for many years before becoming the founder/owner of Messick and Company Appraisers.
He was a longtime member and President of the Lions Club, as well as a member of the Greensboro Realtors Association, the Appraisal Institute, Sertoma Club, and the Greensboro Jaycees.
Harold was an active member of First Baptist Church Greensboro for 33 years where he served in the choir and in numerous leadership roles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his three sons, Mark (Angie), David (Brian Lattimer), and Matt (Holly), all of Greensboro, as well as his four grandchildren Tyler (Kelli), Sam (Carolina), Dylan, and Kate, who all brought him immense joy and pride.
He is also survived by two sisters- Janice Palmer of Lewisville, NC and Julia Hauser of Raleigh, NC, in addition to a large extended family.
Harold lived his life with a deep appreciation for family, faith and community. He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and devotion.
A service to honor Harold’s life will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Greensboro. Visitation will follow immediately in the church atrium.
Harold’s family would also like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers for the past three years- all of whom have become like family.
