

Harold Wilson Sappenfield, 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 1, 2019. Harold was born on March 2, 1923 in High Point, North Carolina to the late Archie Edward and Nannie Little Sappenfield. He was a resident of VerraSpring at Heritage Greens in Greensboro, NC. He always had a kind smile and was known for warmly welcoming everyone who lived, worked, and visited there.
Upon graduating from high school, Harold went on to attend NC State University, School of Engineering, in the Engineering Science and Management War Training Program, where he completed Pre-Radar Training. He proudly served his country as a corporal during World War II in the Army Air Corp and helped develop the sweep radar system.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary Faye Smith. They loved the beach and spent their last years together in N. Myrtle Beach, SC.
Harold was extremely loving and proud of his 3 daughters, Teresa and her husband, Allan Richardson, of Montgomery, Alabama; Kathy and her husband, Timothy Clark of Greensboro, NC; and Lisa and her husband, Douglas Newton of High Point, NC; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
He worked for Western Electric, Bell Laboratories, and AT&T for more than 30 years. He was an avid ham radio operator, and building and repairing electronics was his passion, along with fishing. In his later years, Harold enjoyed watching sports on the television and John Wayne movies.
