
Harry was born February 21,1932 in Baltimore, MD to the late Lottie and Jacke W. Samet, and lived in High Point until 1990 when he and his wife Joan, who survives him, moved to Greensboro. Harry was educated in the High Point City schools and received a B.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1953. Joan and Harry were married in 1953 and spent two years in the US Navy where Harry was the executive officer of the USS Swan. In 1955, Joan and Harry returned to High Point where, in 1958 with partner Larry Robinson, Harry established High Point Furniture Industries., Inc.
Harry was dedicated to many things, but his greatest passion was for his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He loved performing and played major roles in many productions such as Fiddler on the Roof, Come Blow Your Horn, and The Little Foxes. Harry was president of B'nai Israel Synagogue in High Point for several terms. He was a board member of many philanthropic groups including City of Hope and Industries for the Blind, as well as various business organizations. In 1997 Harry was honored by the Anti-Defamation League for his charitable services.
Harry is survived by his four wonderful children and their spouses, Leslie and Carl Samet, Marian Stein and Jerry Samet, Deborah Kintzing and Marc Samet, and Suzan and Daniel Rosen, six incredible grandchildren, Alyssa, Tace, Hannah, Leilah, Mirina, and Avi, and very close personal friend, Risa Hanau. He is also survived by his siblings Mollie and David Lafferman, Norman and Sylvia Samet, Leonard and Ellen Samet and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 26 at Beth David Synagogue in Greensboro at 11 am with Rabbi Selig Salkowitz of Fair Lawn, NJ officiating. Burial will follow in High Point at the Hebrew Cemetery. Special thanks to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro and Dr. Peter Rubin for their wonderful care and concern.
